The unexpected expatriate blogger behind Wander Brook Quartz

Hello, I am Noah

I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Portland, United States.

A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Started

Moving to United States wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.

The first months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily chores seemed more challenging than they needed to be.

The Adjustment Period

Culture shock, ambiguity, and hands-on learning characterized that period. Yet gradually routines formed. We discovered places that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.

Why I Built Wander Brook Quartz

Much of what’s online falls into corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to close that gap — practical advice grounded in real-life experiences in United States.

What This Site Stands For (And What It Doesn't)

This site offers:

  • Practical insights from living in United States
  • Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
  • Updated only when a real change occurs

This site is NOT:

  • Not a tourism board resource
  • A platform for sponsored reviews
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our stay in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Portland or anywhere in United States, please feel free to get in touch.

Cheers,

Noah
